The story of Sara and Teresa began in 2012 as two strangers who met after taking a job as the therapist and behavior coach at a school in Canton, OH. On the first day, these strangers introduced themselves as "Sara...no h" and "Teresa... no h" - and a forever friendship was born. We have worked together from that school over a decade ago to The Relationship Center, a private practice, to co-founding TransCEND, a Stark county non-profit, and now building Next October Holistic (NO H... get it?).
We have lived a lot of life since 2012 together - the ups, the downs, the kids, the pets, the friends, the family, the pandemic, the jobs, the vacations, the houses... and we've always made it to the light at the end of the tunnel - our next October, together. We are passionate about helping you - clients and fellow clinicians - when you are feeling stuck or need a boost. Today, Next October is here to provide you with support, resources and connection to get you to your next October.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.
Being a group practice owner can be a confusing and challenging space. I provide collaboration, direction and support during conception, execution, growth and maintenance of your practice.
I create upbeat, dynamic and engaging in person and virtual trainings and CEU opportunities. My expertise and experience allow me to build trainings that are high on accessible application of theory that will benefit your team in their next client session.
Trauma can take many forms. Any life moment that you experience as scary, trapping, panic-y, gut wrenching, frozen, etc. can be held in the body and mind as trauma. The impact of these past experiences have a ripple effect on your future self and relationships. I am an EMDRIA certified therapist and provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. If you are noticing barriers, blocks or hope to accelerate your current trauma treatment, KAP and/or EMDR intensive may be the key to create movement.
All human moments are experienced within a system; they have a relationship to one another. You have a relationship with your family, your friends, your coworkers, your community, your planet, your universe. Relationship Therapy is challenging, yet vital and rewarding. As a licensed marriage and family therapist (IMFT-S) for over a decade, I have experience and expertise to navigate trauma-specific blocks in relational healing. Couples Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is an excellent compliment to your current couples therapy work.
We are each on a journey through this life. I am here on your journey and you’re on mine. I will collaborate with you every step of the way. You are the expert of your life, your career, your relationships and your future; I honor that.
My clinical and professional consultation approach are the same: I provide an open, affirming, thoughtful and reflective space. My advanced training in systems theories, trauma, EMDR, Brainspotting, OCD - ERP & I-CBT, trauma informed yoga, sandtray therapy, animal assisted therapy and nature based interventions provides a strong foundation for me to help you meet your personal or professional goals.
My CEU trainings are individually created to meet your specific needs and goals. I develop dynamic and engaging presentations to ensure engagement throughout.
I completed my Master’s and PhD at the University of Akron in Counselor Education: Marriage and Family Therapy. I enjoy adjunct teaching, supervising provisionally licensed clinicians, consulting with other private practice owners and providing consultation for EMDRIA certification. My research goals are to integrate the therapeutic power of movement, nature and animals with individuals and couples.
I have created and delivered CEU trainings on many topics including: Systemic Supervision Animal Assisted Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Neurology of Trauma, Trauma Informed Yoga, EMDR for special populations, and others.
Further, I have specialized clinical training in EMDR, Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), brainspotting, OCD - Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference Based Cognitive Based Therapy (I-CBT), expressive arts, animal assisted therapy and eco-therapy.
Hello! Please, call me Teresa. I am the co-founder of Next October, with my best friend, Sara. I also own The Relationship Center and truly enjoy all the successes, challenges and connections that counseling, consulting and supervising offers.
Weekdays, you can find me at the office seeing clients, feeding the office wildlife and managing all the things. I aim for a 4 day work week, because, well, mental health matters, right?
Weekends, between general adulting activities, I intentionally carve out time for the moments that fill my cup: yoga, lunches at the Silver Skillet, hiking with my pups & playing Pokemon Go with kiddo are my go-tos. The creatures that get me moving every day are my husband, son and our pack: 3 dogs, Sunny, Roo & Nutmeg, 4 cats, Tiger, Obie, Jupiter & Diego and rabbit, Coconut. I care about the planet, the animals and the humans.
If you prefer bullet points, like I do - my stats are below:
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.
When doing EMDR reprocessing, I frequently hear “I wish we had more time.” EMDR intensives allow a longer window to plan, target, and reprocess trauma memories. This may be especially helpful for those who have experienced a recent traumatic event.
When my counseling journey started, I remember having So. Much. Anxiety. I had wonderful supervisors who never made me feel shame about my mistakes. I love this work, and I want new counselors to feel empowered to do their best. I am also very passionate about providing education and consultation on gender affirming care.
I utilize a trauma informed lens in my practice of therapy. This means that I hold awareness that past experiences may be impacting your current relationships and perception of self. Both KAP and EMDR can be powerful tools for examining what happened, recognize how it is impacting us in the present, and rewire how our brains respond to triggers in the future.
I respect your lived experience as more valuable than anything I can read in a book, and understand that transition looks different for everyone. I can help provide resources and support for wherever you are in your journey. I also recognize that your gender identity may not be why you are seeking counseling, but that it is important for your counselor to be an ally. I believe that “ally” is a verb, and that advocacy is important. I have experience facilitating treatment and support groups for gender dysphoria, and am a co-founder of Transcend Canton.
I prefer to take on a nurturing, meet-you-where-you’re at, warm (and sometimes sarcastic) approach to therapy. I never want a client to feel anxious about meeting me. I know this is a big step, and i feel honored to be allowed to hold space for you on your journey. I love my job, I love my clients, and i believe that people do heal.
I received a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Development from Walsh University in 2014. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Supervisor (LPCC-S). I have worked in mental health in Stark county for over 12 years in a variety of settings, and regularly collaborate with other professionals for continuity of care. In my experience, the things that facilitate the most healing aren’t what we learned in graduate school. We created Next October as a space to explore nontraditional healing methods.
I am Sara Satterlee, cofounder of Next October Holistic.
In my free time I enjoy elaborate practical jokes, rescuing the occasional stray cat, walking around Target, starting but not finishing knitting projects, and annoying my mom (Writing this bio was more stressful than creating a dating profile, so please just tell Teresa it’s good enough so she’ll get off my back about writing more)!
