Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy EMDR Intensives

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

We offer a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which Ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. Sara and Teresa take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment and last for up to 2 weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.

How is it administered?

Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, via nasal spray and using sublingual lozenges.

In our work with Journey Clinical we only use the sublingual lozenge form. You will hold the lozenge under your tongue, then spit it out and feel the effects.

How does Ketamine feel?

The effects of Ketamine, which most clients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience. Once these effects subsided, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience.

The KAP Process

1

Initial Consult with Journey Clinical

  • Schedule an initial evaluation with a clinician from the Journey Clinical (JC) medical team via zoom. They will go over your medical and psychiatric history with you, provide education on the treatment and determine if you are eligible for KAP.
  • If JC’s team determines that you are eligible for KAP, they will develop a personalized Ketamine prescription and outcome monitoring plan for you.
  • JC’s medical staff will write a Ketamine prescription for you, and a small amount of oral Ketamine will be sent to your home, enough for the first 2 KAP sessions. You will be taught to take your vitals and self-administer the Ketamine lozenges by JC’s medical team in advance of our KAP sessions.
2

Preperation Session

  • Once you receive your Ketamine lozenges, we will schedule time together for our KAP preparation, dosing and integration sessions. Preparation session(s) will be scheduled just like regular therapy sessions prior to the KAP dosing session. The goal of a preparation session(s) is to align on the process and set intentions for our KAP sessions together.
3

KAP Dosing Session

  • A typical ketamine dosing session lasts between 1-2 hours and can take place either in-person at my office, or remotely via telehealth.
  • During a dosing session, you will self-administer your ketamine lozenge either in my office or in your home. You will be in a comfortable, reclining position wearing an eye mask and listening to calming music. Although a KAP dosing session may be largely an internal experience, I will be present with you the entire time to hold space and provide support as needed.
4

Integration Session

  • After our KAP dosing session, we will meet for multiple integration therapy sessions to review the memories, thoughts & insights that arose during your dosing session, and to prepare for the next dosing session.
5

Follow-up Session with Journey Clinical

  • After our first KAP session, JC’s medical team schedules regular follow ups with you to monitor outcomes and prescribe Ketamine lozenge refills, as appropriate. The frequency of follow ups depends on your unique treatment plan, at a minimum of once per quarter.

Cost of KAP

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is an affordable, accessible modality. Although the medical intake, psychotherapy sessions and follow ups are not covered by insurance, they are eligible for out-of-network reimbursement.

Next October - Therapy Sessions

  • Our rate is $125 per hour
  • This includes, preparation, dosing and integration sessions.
  • Mentaya is a service to support you in submitting out-of-network claims to your insurance provider for reimbursement directly to you.

REACH OUT!

Using low-dose Ketamine with couples work has the powerful potential to create deeper and more rapid growth and healing for those couples who have been gridlocked for some time. Sometimes described as a “lubricant” for the release of defensiveness and anxiety, Ketamine is a tool that can provide a stepping stone toward shifts that might otherwise take years to achieve.

KAP allows partners to support one another through a transformative healing process that can interrupt negative reactive patterns, eliminate gridlock, increase personal accountability, and enhance emotional and sexual intimacy in their partnership.

Through KAP, couples can learn to navigate the complex, vulnerable, and transformative terrain of emotional and sexual intimacy issues.

What is Journey Clinical?

EMDR Intensives & Client Consultation

Teresa and Sara are fully licensed, EMDRIA certified and experienced EMDR therapists. We offer intensive EMDR sessions for those who are seeking to heal from past trauma, those who have experienced a recent traumatic event and individuals desiring quicker relief than traditional 60 min counseling sessions.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.

Why EMDR Intensives?

  • Recent disturbing events have disrupted your life, and you want to feel better and get back to your previous functioning quickly.
  • You may have witnessed or experienced a disturbing or traumatic event in your life and have symptoms that bother you (ie. car accident, sexual assault, crime, traumatic medical procedure, military combat, emotional abuse).
  • You want to improve your performance on the job or in the field and don’t want to attend weekly therapy for a long period of time.

What are the Benefits?

  • Cost-Effective – Intensives are highly focused and often require less time and overall cost.
  • There is no need to talk extensively about disturbing experiences – EMDR allows healing without talking in detail about traumatic experiences.
  • Feel better faster – Intensives are highly concentrated and focused so that you can make faster progress and lasting change NOW!
  • No weekly appointments needed
  • You don’t have to live locally (just in Ohio) – EMDR via secure telehealth platform is as effective as in person sessions.

How it Works

Preperation Phase

  • We will do an assessment first.
  • Provide you with written assessment materials (typically a questionnaire) to help pinpoint targets for EMDR and your goals, as well as gather additional information about your background and history. Your therapist may also want to view relevant previous mental health records, and staff with your current therapist (if you have one).
  • An EMDR Intensive Workbook will be provided to you to support your process before, during and after EMDR.

Treatment Phase

  • The treatment phase of the intensive is curated to match your specific needs and timeline. Options range from one 90 minute session per week to three 60-90 minutes sessions in one day.  For the longer duration EMDR Intensives there will be breaks in between for meals, rest, movement and self-care.
  • After an EMDR Intensive, you will be guided to your workbook to support your growth and reprocessing between sessions.
  • We will discuss and develop a personalized plan to meet your goals.

EMDR Cost

  • Intensives are $150 per hour.
  • Unfortunately, insurance will not cover the costs, as intensives are not part of coverage plans.

EMDR Client Consultation

Understanding and supporting your loved one while they are on their trauma recovery journey.

REACH OUT!

Trauma recovery does not only impact the individual, it impact their entire system. Often loved ones want to support, hold space and be "the rock" for their person but at times that can be quite challenging.  Trauma recovery is not linear or a consistent upward trajectory, there are a lot of twists, turns, ups and downs along the way that loved ones experience as well.

Teresa provides education, support and connection consultation sessions for the individual and their partner and/or loved ones. We will spend time learning the neuro-science behind trauma (in non-sciency terms), developing clear expectations and action planning for partners to navigate this time together. Knowledge is power - insight about trauma, EMDR and trauma recovery creates a more connected and collaborative space enhancing the relationship as a whole (oh, and also secure attachment heals trauma too).

Cost: $250 for 2 hour consultation session
